Website overhaul – part 1, WordPress-ification

The much-needed re-vamp of my website has finally made it to the top of my to do list. Although, with other demands on my time, I’m going to have to do it in stages.

First step is the background technology that runs the site. Previously this site was a hybrid of static pages together with a ‘blog powered by WordPress. ‘Back in the day’ I had time to fiddle about hand-coding PHP and HTML but my time is rather more limited now and I’m often working at disparate locations. I need a system that enables me to update the site quickly and easily from anywhere. Step forward the increasingly marvellous, extendable and customisable WordPress.

So I’ve now moved the site over to be completely driven by WordPress. The old ‘blog is now joined by WordPress pages to replace the old static pages. However I’ve had to use one of the ‘off the shelf’ design themes for the site (I did say I was going to do this in stages). Although rather snazzy, the design pedant in me still finds it a little busy for my tastes and I’d like to ‘re-decorate’ at some point. This is the just-moved-in, everything painted magnolia version and I’d like to splash a bit of ‘lemon tropics’ about the place and hang a few pictures. Of course I can do all this with WordPress’ customisable themes. Looks like I’ll get a chance to fiddle with some code after all…
